Our “Hitting Wall” will be one of only a few in the UK . It will give Racket Players the opportunity to try out their Racket in store . It is 6m by 3m in size and has been supported by Wilson Tennis.

This “Hitting Wall” , along with our NEW Racket Diagnostic Centre will give us a unique and real Specialist feel. There is no other racket shop (or general sports shop) in the Midlands that offers this combination.

The Racket Diagnostic Machine offers the Player the chance to customise their Racket(s), we can match rackets’ weight and balance, we can make your “Favourite Racket” a thing of the past as we can make your spare identical”.

Racket-Tuning-CentreWe have recently invested in a new Prince Racket Diagnostic Centre (Prince Precision Tuning Centre). This will enable us to measure the 3 most critical characteristics of a racquet:

  • weight
  • balance
  • swing weight

With this equipment we can ensure that your rackets are identical. No more ‘favourite’ racket. Each one can now feel and play exactly the same – unless of course you, like the pros, have different stringing tension or types to suit different conditions.

So, now there is no excuse tennis, squash and rackets players across the Midlands will see their consistency rocket!

The work to fit out the new Withers Intersport shop (6 Carts Lane, Leicester) is proceeding to plan. We look forward to seeing you in our new, larger shop from 6th June 2012.

Brett caps a memorable year!

Steve Brett has capped a memorable 12 months on and off the court with an international call-up.

The county tennis star will represent England’s over-45s in a Four Nations tournament at the end of April.

What is more, as he makes his England debut, Brett has been named as captain of the threeman side which will tackle Wales, Scotland and Ireland in Cardiff over the bank holiday weekend.

Brett’s year of success included victories in both the national singles and doubles championships in his agegroup.

Those achievements helped him to win the county’s veteran player of the year award for 2010.

Away from competition, it has been a busy time, too, as Brett has taken over the ownership of the Withers Intersport shop in Leicester city centre.

“It has been a rewarding year, with taking over the business as well,” said Brett, who is a member of the Leicestershire and Leicester Forest clubs.

He added: “I think I’ve been knocking on the door for some time. It is nice to get the opportunity to play in this tournament – and an honour to be asked to be captain.”

Each fixture in the event is fought out over two singles matches and a doubles clash so, through the course of the competition, Brett can expect to play plenty of tennis.

“I haven’t played in it before so it will all be new to me,” he said. “But I would expect the teams to be fairly evenly matched.”

The three-day competition begins on April 30 and, between now and then, Brett hopes to get in as much court-time as he can to help him get into the best shape possible. “I’ll be playing as much as I can and will start running again to build the fitness,” he said as he sets about extending a terrific run of success.

In all, each country will field six sides at the tournament. As well as the men’s and women’s over-45s, there is competition for over-35s and over-50s in what is likely to be a keenly contested event.
