Junior Racket Sizing
Choosing what racket size to go for is an important decision!
Simple Check Before Purchase
- Hold the racket handle in the correct position
- Stand up straight and hold the racket to the side of your body, pointing towards the floor.
You are looking for the racket head to be just touching the floor. If the racket head is just off the floor then you may want to consider going for the next size up, the same applies if the racket is easily touching the floor, you will want to go for the next size down. Please note this advise is only for junior rackets and not full size rackets!

Other Factors To Consider
- The more experienced players can probably cope with a longer length racket but you should always get advice from a coach or professional first because if the racket is too long it can be harder to swing and burden the player.
- As well as height of the child being one of the most important things to consider when choosing a racket, the build of the player has a bearing on the racket selection also.
- Beginners are generally better off with aluminum rackets, they are cheaper and easier to replace as the child grows and moves on to the next racket size. Graphite rackets should be used by the better junior players. This is because graphite gives better power and pace on the ball as well as taking out more vibration.
- If there is an age/height overlap, the general rule is to take the larger racket size (i.e., a 4 year old who fits into the 19"/21" sizes, should go for the 21", if it feels comfortable)
Below is a rough age to size guideline, again we must stress this is a basic guide to help you choose, where possible get advice from a coach or retailers like ourselves.
